LC hosts Clarksville Northeast in playoffs

When the smoke had cleared from week 10 of high school football action Lincoln County High School finished second in District 8-AAA behind Shelbyville.

The Eagles and Falcons both finished at 5-1 in league play, but Shelbyville’s win over LCHS gave them the advantage. Franklin County finished 4-2; Tullahoma, 3-3; Columbia and Lawrence County 2-4, and Coffee Co was 0-6.

In playoff action Friday night, those from the district are Shelbyville hosting Tullahoma, Lincoln County hosting Clarksville Northeast and Lawrence County traveling to Gallatin. It’s the Falcons’ first playoff appearance since 2010 and the first for this group of seniors. The last time Lincoln County hosted a playoff game was in 2008.

Northeast comes into the match-up with the Falcons at 5-5 overall and 4-3 in District 10-AAA. The Eagles were picked to finish second in the district in preseason poles; they finished 5th behind Henry County, 10-0 overall and 7-0 in district play; Rossview, 9-1 and 6-1; Clarksville, 4-6 and 4-3; Kenwood, 5-5 and 4-3. Springfield finished sixth at 2-8 and 2-5; West Creek, 3-7 and 1-6; and Northwest was 1-9 and 0-7.

Wins for the Eagles came over Centennial, 48-31; Springfield, 57-20; Clarksville, 14-7; West Creek, 35-14; and Northwest, 54-8. Losses for Northeast come from Franklin, 28-20; Smyrna, 35-13; Rossview, 37-34; Henry Co., 32-28 and Kenwood, 44-21.

The Lincoln County vs. Clarksville Northeast match-up gets underway Friday night at Meadows/Thompson Stadium with kickoff at 7 p.m.
