Lincoln County High School’s Lady Falcons did well in holiday tournament action. Before Christmas, the ladies played in the Huntsville Times Tournament and finished with a 3-1 record.
Prior to the New Year, LCHS made a three-day road trip to Hixson where the ladies swept the field, claiming the tournament championship with three wins.
McKinley Slayton and Shy Buchanan were named to the All Tournament team. Cortney Storey was selected as Tournament MVP.
Lincoln County’s overall record is now 14-3.
The ladies opened play defeating Lookout Valley, 63-32, on Thursday.
Ten Lady Falcons put points on the board, led by Cortney Storey with 15. Elizabeth Faulkner had 13; Morgan Higgins, Khaila King and McKinley Slayton had 6; Shy Buchanan, 5; Sara Fenner, 4; Rebecca Hone and Reilly Watson, 3; and Khiana Miller scored 2.
The win sent the ladies to the second round where they defeated Rhea County, 62-49.
Khaila King led the scoring with 14 points. Cortney Storey had 12; McKinley Slayton, 9; Elizabeth Faulkner, 8; Morgan Higgins and Shy Buchanan, 7; and Whitney Graham scored 5.
The ladies then advanced to the championship game and took the win over Ft. Payne, Ala., 61-43.
LCHS opened strong, taking the first quarter, 20-8.
At the intermission, it was a 31-21 ball game.
The Lady Falcons won the second half, 30-22, to finish with the win.
Storey led for the ladies with 22 points. Buchanan had 9; Faulkner, 8; King and Higgins, 7; Watson, 5; and Slayton had 3.
Prior to Christmas Lincoln County’s girls played in the Huntsville Times Tournament.
The ladies opened with a loss but won the next three games for a fifth place finish.
Against Athens, the girls got off to a slow start, down 17-7 at the end of the first quarter, but battled back to send the game into overtime holding Athens to just four points in the fourth quarter with it tied 38-38 in regulation.
But, the Lady Eagles won the extended four minutes of basketball, 11-7, for the win.
Storey and Buchanan led for the ladies with 11. King had 8; Watson, 4; Higgins, Slayton and Graham, 3; Faulkner scored 2.
In the losers’ bracket, the ladies matched up with Decatur and took the win, 54-20.
Higgins led with 12; Storey had 10; King, 8; Slayton, 6; Hone, 5; Buchanan and Watson, 4; Graham, 3; and Miller scored 2.
The ladies advanced to meet North Ridge and finished on top, 59-44.
Storey led with 24 points. King scored 14; Higgins, 8; Watson, 6; Buchanan, 4; and Slayton had 3.
In their final game of the tournament, the girls won over James Clemens, 60-53.
The Lady Falcons trailed 13-11 at the end of the first quarter but took the second period, 17-5, up 28-18 at the break.
The second half went to the ladies, 35-32, for the win.
Storey led with 19. Slayton had 9; Graham, 8; Higgins, Buchanan, Faulkner and Watson had 5; King finished with 4.
For their next action, the girls return to district action, traveling to Lawrence County Friday with game time at 6 p.m.
