Lincoln County High School’s Lady Falcon basketball team wrapped up their season with an impressive 22-11 record.

The mark is fourth best in the school’s history, and the team is one of five to reach the 20-win mark.

“I can remember last summer I didn’t know if we would win a game,” said Coach Herman Hardin. “It was not good. This season is a testament of these young ladies’ hard work when they came in starting in August. During practice, they worked as hard as any group I’ve ever had.

“The thing that made them successful this year was that they were probably the best ‘teammates’ I’ve ever coached,” he added. “I’ve had better players, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a better team – that’s what it takes. These seniors have won 57 games in their three years at LCHS.

“We had a lot of injuries and sickness, and they had to fight through a lot of adversity,” Hardin added. “There were times we had seven girls at practice.

“These girls have been a great group to work with, and I’m proud to have been their coach.”

Seniors on this year’s team are Khiana Miller, Shy Buchanan, Cecilee Dickens, Rebecca Hone and Elizabeth Faulkner.

Junior Cortney Storey led the scoring for the Lady Falcons with 526 points, averaging 16 points per game. She shot 78 percent from the line, hitting on 128 of 165 attempts. Storey also set a school record for assists with 156. Sophomore Morgan Higgins was next with 239 points for a 7-point average, along with junior Khaila King, who also averaged 7 points per game.

Higgins and Buchanan led with rebounds, averaging 5 per game.

Storey was named to the All-District Team at the end of the regular season and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
