Lincoln County High School’s Lady Falcon softball program has built a tradition as winners. This year’s team is working to continue that heritage.
Three seniors from the roster have already committed to play at the next level. Lauren Hunter and Taylor Ferguson signed with Martin Methodist. Traci Shelton will join the Lady Bucks at Motlow College.
The Lady Falcons are led again by Coach Troy Smith beginning his 19th year. Veteran Coach Reese Hambrick will work as his assistant for the fifth year.
LCHS wrapped up the 2013 season with a 34-17 overall record, winning the district regular season. With 16 returning from that team, expectations are high in 2014.
“We’re excited about the season,” Coach Smith said. “We’ve got experience coming back at the plate and defensively. There’ll be more contact made on the ball this year so we’ve going to have to play error-free softball.
“Our district is going to be tough,” added Coach Smith. “With Coffee County coming back in and Shelbyville reloading, we’re going to have to play well in all aspects of the game. Overall, I’m happy with our preseason play so far. We’ve just got to stay focused and keep improving.”
