IDB sewer work nears completion

Installation of sewer at the joint industrial park on the Winchester Highway in Fayetteville is nearing completion, officials said during Monday’s meeting of the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Industrial Development Board.

“All the piping is in,” said Elaine Middleton, economic development director. “We’re just waiting on electrical components which should be in by the end of the month. At that point all we’ll lack is cleanup, seeding and mulch, which will be done as weather allows.”

The sewer is the final piece of infrastructure which makes the park site ready, said Will Thomas, board chairman, adding he anticipates the Lincoln County Commission taking another vote a proposed speculative building planned for the industrial park during its meeting this week.

“If you see a county commissioner, please remind them that every county around us has a building and that we can’t recruit if we don’t have a building to recruit prospects into,” he said during Thursday’s work session leading into Monday’s regular session of IDB directors.

The proposal to fund one-half of the required interest and/or principal payments not to exceed $89,000 per year for the spec building narrowly failed the commission during its February meeting. The city has already allocated funding.

Middleton noted that the wetlands delineation study on the Winchester Highway park has been completed and submitted to the state. The study is one of two being done on the Douglas/Posey Industrial Park on the Winchester Highway and on Runway Centre on the Huntsville Highway in an effort to have both sites approved as part of the Select Tennessee site certification process which identifies build-ready sites to industries considering locating within the state.
