Surrounded by friends and family, Lincoln County native Ian Bonner was presented the Congressional Award for Youth Silver Certificate by County Mayor Bill Newman on Tuesday, March 8, at the Lincoln County Courthouse.

The Congressional Award for Youth is the U.S. Congress’s only charity, and the highest honor Congress can bestow upon youth. To earn the Silver Certificate, Ian completed over 30 hours of physical fitness, including running the Spartan Sprint mud/obstacle race; more than 35 hours of personal development, including learning rocketry; more than 60 hours of voluntary public service, including helping at the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Public Library and 4-H service projects; and he planned and completed two expeditions, one to Florida, and one to Kentucky.

Ian has plans to complete his packet for the Gold Certificate in the near future, and to go on to eventually earn the Gold Medal. There is more information about the Congressional Award for Youth at www.congressionalaward.org.
