The Fourth Annual Imagination Library 5K Run and One-Mile Walk is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, at Stone Bridge Park on Thornton Taylor Parkway in Fayetteville.
“By entering this race or becoming a sponsor, you are helping children from birth to age five receive quality, hard-back books for free,” said Helen Fussell, race director. “This is an organization that keeps on giving and has provided thousands of books to your children, grandchildren, you friends’ and relatives children and grandchildren, and on and on.
“They cannot continue this great effort without the support of this annual race,” she added. “Last year, we raised over $3,000, and this year, our goal is to raise over $4,000.”
Registration forms are available at www.active.com or at Patrick Rehab-Wellness, US Bank or Fayetteville High School. Late registration will also be held the morning of Sept. 21, beginning at 6:30 a.m.
Pre-registration fee is $25 for the 5K, or $30 if registering the day of the race. The cost to participate in the walk is $10. T-shirts will be sold for $15 each.
Team entries are welcome – any team of seven or more members will receive recognition on race day and become an ABCD sponsor of the Imagination Library of Lincoln County.
The 5K will get underway at 7 a.m. the morning of Sept. 21, followed by the walk at 8 a.m.
The course of the 5K is mostly flat, Fussell said, noting that it begins at Stone Bridge Park and follows Thornton Taylor Parkway until it veers left onto historic Mulberry Avenue where runners will pass by scenic homes built in the 1800s.
More beautiful homes will be seen as the course takes a left onto South Franklin and a right onto Maple, up to Main Street, left on Main and down the hill to finish at the rear entrance of Stone Bridge Park.
An awards ceremony is planned for 8:30 a.m. that morning. Awards will be presented to the overall male and female runners and the top three runners by gender and age groups.
