Guests of the Lincoln County Historical Society will have the privilege on Sunday, March 16, to hear historical author and attorney Jerry Barksdale review his latest historical novel, “Revolutionaries and Rebels”.
The presentation will begin Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fayetteville Municipal Building.
This is the story of the family of his ancestor Micajah McElroy and their fight for freedom during the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and the Civil War. A great deal of the story is set in Lincoln County, just northwest of Fayetteville on the Hamwood Road near Cane Creek. Although the book is a novel about his family’s involvement in these wars, the historical background is accurately portrayed.
The details of the typical family living in those times, what they ate, what they wore, how they fed themselves, how they traveled, and their social and religious ties, makes a heartwarming story that relates to all of our ancestors.
