Halloween storms cause minor outages

The strong winds from last week’s Halloween thunderstorm brought enough high winds and rain to the area to dampen trick-or-treating, but not enough to cause serious power outages for Fayetteville Public Utilities’ customers.

FPU reports that the first isolated outage resulting from the high wind was reported around 5 p.m.

“The system held up well last night with the strong winds that went through,” FPU’s CEO and General Manager Britt Dye said Friday.

“We had one main three-phase breaker to lock out in the eastern part of the county and one pole down in the southern part of the county.

“There were several scattered cases of trouble in the western part of the county,” Dye added, “but everything was back up and running by 1 a.m.”
