Goode Stars in Little Women

Local actress Carley Beth Goode (far right) plays the role of Beth in this weekend's production of “Little Women" at the VBC Playhouse in Huntsville, Ala.

Local actress Carley Beth Goode, who has been a part of numerous productions over the past few years, will star as Beth in “Little Women” to be staged this weekend at the VBC Playhouse in Huntsville, Ala.

Based on Louisa May Alcott’s own family experiences and novel, “Little Women” follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March as they grow up in Civil War America.

“I read the book as a child and just fell in love with it,” said Carley Beth, who has now re-read the book with a new perspective in her role as Beth.

The Huntsville production, presented by the Ars Nova School of the Arts, is the Broadway version with music and dance. It is the first presentation of the Broadway production in this area.

“The beloved story of the March sisters is timeless and deals with issues as relevant today as when they were written. Now, this wonderful narrative has been brought to life as an exhilarating new musical filled with glorious music, dancing and heart,” according to the Ars Nova website. “‘Little Women’ embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears and a lifting of the spirit. This powerful score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartache and hope – the sounds of a young America finding its voice.”

Carley Beth will star in all of the weekend productions, with the exception of a Saturday afternoon performance. You can see Carley Beth in performances set for Friday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 27, at 2:30 p.m. All performances are at the VBC Playhouse.

Carley Beth is no stranger to the stage. She has performed since the age of eight, starring in numerous Ars Nova productions, most recently “Little Mermaid.”

Last year she won two high school divisions in the Alabama student auditions for National Association for Teachers of Singing, claiming first place for Musical Theater and second place for Opera. Locally, she has sung in Lincoln’s Got Talent.

A sophomore homeschool student through Riverside Christian Academy, she is the daughter of Jamie and Allison Goode of Meridianville, Ala., and granddaughter of Sara Goode and Carroll and Patty Seals of Lincoln County.
