The Good Shepherd Parish Community of Decherd announces its Mardi Gras celebration to be held on Feb. 10 and is open to all ticket holder 21 years or older.

The 29th year of hosting this celebration continues the Parish’s rich tradition in marking the beginning of the Lenten season. Organizers say it is quickly becoming the social event of the year in Franklin County and has grown in popularity every year with rave reviews about the food, music and dancing.

The event will be held at Monterey Station from 6 until 11 p.m. The night will feature live entertainment by The Respectables Band and DJ, who were awarded Best Live Band in the United States in 2013 by Wedding Industry Experts. Between sets, the DJ will keep the fun tunes rolling and will keep the place rocking for dancing the night away.

Catered by a professional chef, an a la carte gourmet buffet will feature traditional and untraditional Cajun cuisine and decadent desserts served from 6 until 8 p.m.

A silent auction featuring items donated by local and regional businesses, including those in Huntsville, Chattanooga, Nashville, Gatlinburg and Atlanta, will be held. Music and dancing will start at 7 p.m. with the last dance at 11 p.m. Bringing your own alcoholic beverages is not allowed due to liquor licensing laws, but a cash bar will be available.

Proceeds will go to Good Samaritan Ministries of Franklin County, Linda Bauman Scholarship Fund and the Good Shepherd Parish Ministries. Good Samaritan is a ministry of more than three dozen churches which provides food, clothes and other assistance to neighbors in need. The Linda Bauman Scholarship was created in memory of Linda Bauman, a long-time Good Shepherd parishioner and Mardi Gras volunteer who was tragically killed in a plane crash in Lincoln County in 2015. The scholarship provides money to a Franklin County High School resident who is working to pursue a career in medicine.

Tickets are $45 per person in advance or $50 at the door and can be purchased at Good Shepherd Parish Office or by calling Cecelia Schlagheck at (931) 962-3331, Janie Casey at 308-7116 or Barbara Lamb at (931) 607-5644. The church office may be called Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 967-0961.

The Good Shepherd Mardi Gras is made possible by its sponsors and volunteers who give of their time, money, goods and services which are what allows the fundraiser to contribute to great causes.
