Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will be presenting its yearly Christmas cantata on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

This year’s cantata is “A Celebration of Carols”, by Joseph M. Martin. The 30-member choir and 12-piece orchestra will present this new work that is based on the traditional “Lesson and Carols” service.

Filled to overflowing with beloved carols and original seasonal songs, this cantata tells the story of Christ’s birth adorned with beautiful arrangements and meaningful scriptures.

The orchestra is made up of professional musicians from the Huntsville area and includes a string quintet, woodwinds, brass and percussion. They will be joined by Jane Bradford on piano and Barry Petty as conductor.

“With the hearing of winter’s first treasured song, we are gradually gathered from the noise of our daily work and drawn into the hopeful sounds of Christmas,” said Composer Joseph Martin.

“As we prepare to present this celebration of carols, we are reminded of the story of the birth of Christ and are thankful for the miraculous birth,” said Barry Petty, director of the FUMC Chancel Choir.

“A Celebration of Carols” is a musical gift to the Fayetteville community and is presented free of charge to the public.

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church is located at 200 North Elk Avenue.
