Fayetteville’s Middle School Tigers went through the 2013 Lions Club Tip Off Tournament undefeated, taking the win in the championship, 32-25, over Riverside Christian Academy’s Knights.
The two teams had squared off in opening day of the weeklong tournament, and the Tigers edged out a 40-39 win.
RCA advanced to the title game, defeating Highland Rim, 51-44, in the semifinals earlier in the day.
In the championship game, it was knotted at 8-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers won the second frame, 11-9, and were up, 19-17, at the half.
The Knights quickly knotted it at 19-19 early in the third, but both teams struggled to put the ball in the hole. Fayetteville won the period, 6-5, and was up, 25-22, at the end of three.
The pace of the game quickened, but both teams’ struggle to score continued. With 1:16 remaining in the game, the Tigers were up 27-25. City won the final minute, 4-0, to finish with the win.
Brandon Moore led for the Tigers with 12 points; Isaiah Watkins, 8; Worth Watson, 6; K.J. Buchanan, 4; and Desiah Smith finished with 3.
Fayetteville was 7 of 15 from the line.
Eli Wright led for the Knights with 18 points, hitting two from the arch. Taylor Gleghorn had 6 and Tyler Southard scored 3.
RCA was 9 of 15 from the line.
