The Fayetteville Middle School Tigers’ varsity wrapped up another week of undefeated baseball, winning games at Liberty Middle School and Westwood Middle School.
At Liberty in Bedford County on Wednesday, the Tigers handled the Patriots, 15-4. Eighth-grader Worth Watson went 3 and 2/3 innings on the mound, striking out 8 batters, giving up 10 walks and allowing 1 hit. Seventh-grade left-hander Colton Wiseman closed the final inning and a third, racking up 3 strikeouts and allowing no walks or hits.
The Tigers’ bats were hot against the Patriots, especially seventh-grader Jeffrie Pettie, who went 4-4 from the plate. The remaining 6 base hits by the Tigers were by eighth-graders Worth Watson (2), Zorian Pullen (1) and Lex Marsh (1), seventh-grader Colton Wiseman (1) and sixth-grader Jacious Clark (1).
On Thursday, April 27, at Westwood in Manchester, the Tigers handled the Rockets, 14-3, in 5 innings. Colton Wiseman went the distance on the mound, earning 8 strikeouts while allowing 4 walks and 2 hits.
Offensively, the Tigers accounted for 9 base hits, coming from Worth Watson, who went 3-4 at the plate, as well as Brandon Moore (1), Zorian Pullen (1) and sixth-graders Mac O’Connor (1), Landon Howell (1), Jacious Clark (1) and Nathan Clutts (1).
The match-up between FMS and Riverside Christian Academy that was scheduled for Saturday, March 29, was postponed due to rain.
This week will prove to be another busy week for the young Tigers, who will travel to Moore County on Monday, March 31, host Moore County on Tuesday and travel to Cornersville on Friday. First pitch for all games is 6 p.m.
In addition to varsity action, Coach Billy Jack Netherland has his junior varsity set to play in a tournament in Tullahoma on Saturday, April 5. The junior varsity Tigers will face Tullahoma and Oakland.
