Falcons split in Thanksgiving play

Lincoln County High School’s Falcons split in action during the Cannon County Thanksgiving Classic.

Saturday, the Falcons won over Lancaster High School’s Knights but went down to Cannon County’s Lions on Friday.

In Saturday’s win over the Knights, the Falcons finished on top, 53-38. LCHS won the first frame, 15-12, and was up, 32-27, at the intermission. The scoring slowed for both teams in the third. Lincoln County was up 40-32 going into the fourth. The Falcons won the final frame, going 9 of 10 from the line. LCHS took the period, 13-6, for the win.

Austin Grimes led the scoring with 14; Xavier Talley-Hyde, 12; Ryan Hall, 10; Quintez Perry, 9; and Tyler Jones finished with 8.

From the line, the Falcons were 16 of 22. Quintez Perry had 1 from the arch.

On Friday, LCHS went down to Cannon County, 58-30.

The Lions were on top, 12-10, at the end of one but broke the game open, taking the second period, 19-3, up 31-13 at the break. Cannon County took the second half, 27-17, for the win.

Xavier Talley-Hyde led for LCHS with 9; Keller Monks, 7; Shelton Smith, 5; Austin Grimes and Quintez Perry, 3; Eli Slayton, 2; and Tyler Jones had 1.

The Falcons open their District 8-AAA schedule traveling to Columbia on Friday of this week. Girls’ action gets underway at 6 p.m.
