Lincoln County High School’s Falcon basketball team wrapped up its season with a 19-12 record.

After a third place finish in District 8-AAA action during the regular season, the Falcons won the tournament championship – the first for LCHS since 1996.

The Falcons brought an excitement to the floor in their 2012-13 season, playing above the rim and game winners at the buzzer.

“This senior class accomplished a lot here at LCHS,” said Coach Chad Tipps. “They would be the first to say they didn’t do it on their own, but they were a big part of the success. They were the first to make it to the region tournament all three of their years since 1997. They tied for the most wins in their three years with 50 – the best since 1992.

“They won the regular season championship as juniors – the first since 1990 – and this year they won the first district tournament championship. They’ve hung back-to-back banners in the gym – the first since 1990.

“The interesting thing about it is those guys probably played less as sophomore than any group of sophomores I’ve had,” Tipps added. “It tells you if you have a passion, willing to work at it and have an unselfish attitude at it, it tells you what you could accomplish.

“This group came together and made a very special team, including everyone, sophomores through seniors, including the managers,” he continued. “I don’t know if I’ll ever have the privilege to coach another group like this group. They are very, very special kids, and I’d like to thank every one of them.”

Seniors on this year’s team are Tradarius Christian, Ty Lewter, B.J. Thompson, Justin Blackwell and Riley Malone.

B.J. Thompson led the scoring for the Falcons, averaging just under 19 points per game, shooting 63 percent from the floor. From the line, Thompson tied with Ty Hadley, shooting 65 percent. He averaged 8.7 rebounds per game and had 74 steals.

Tradarius Christian finished with 300 points for a 9.7-points per game average. Justin Blackwell shot 60 percent from the paint and finished with 42 blocks. Ty Lewter led in charges taken with 13.

Christian and Thompson were selected to the all-district team following the regular season. Both were named to the all-tournament team, and Christian was selected as the tournament MVP.
