Lincoln County’s Falcon baseball split in the District 8-AAA opener last week against Lawrence County.
The Falcons picked up four wins in their Round Robin Tournament and their overall record now stands at 12-5.
With Monday’s game at home rescheduled for Thursday due to weather, the Falcons’ first district action of the season was on the road in Lawrence County Wednesday. LCHS went down to the Wildcats, 6-4.
Of the Cats’ six runs, only two were earned. Lincoln County had five errors.
The Falcons scored 2 in the first, 1 in the fifth and 1 in the sixth. Runs for the Wildcats came 2 in the second, 3 in the fourth and 1 in the fifth.
Lincoln County had 7 hits. Riley McCown had a single and double, and Brandon Gower, Brady Owens, Dylan Hudgins, Grady Wright and Josh Whitaker had singles. Caleb Smith was walked twice. Zack Malone and Whitaker reached on walks.
Zack Malone got the start and went five and two thirds inning, giving up 6 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. McCown face the final batter, putting a strikeout in the books.
On Thursday, the Falcons had their make-up game with Lawrence County and took the win, 4-1.
Lincoln County added 1 in the second, 1 in the third and 2 in the sixth.
The Falcons finished with 5 hits. Dylan Hudgins had a homerun. Zack Malone had 2 singles, and Gower and Jonathan Jacks had singles.
Caleb Smith faced 29 batters, giving up 1 run off 2 hits, 5 walks and 12 strikeouts. McCown pitched to one batter and finished the game catching a line drive.
Round Robin – Friday
Friday, the Falcons picked up two win, defeating Giles County and West Point.
Against the Bobcats, LCHS took the win, 7-5.
The Falcons finished with 5 hits coming from Gower, C. Smith, Hudgins, Owens and Malone.
Zach Harwell got the win, giving up 5 runs (1 earned) off 9 hits, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. McCown pitched to 3 batters, having 1 strikeout.
Against West Point, the Falcons took the win, 11-0.
LCHS had 15 hits coming from Whitaker, Gower, C. Smith, Hudgins, Owens, Jacks, Wright, Malone, Osgood, Fisk and Lackey.
Carson Taylor went the distance, giving up no runs off 2 hits, 4 walks and 9 strikeouts.
Round Robin – Saturday
Saturday, the Falcons had a rematch with West Point and took the win, 5-4, in 11 innings.
LCHS finished with 8 hits coming from Gower, C. Smith, Hudgins, Wright, Malone and Jacks.
Jake Pierce got the start, giving up 3 runs off 3 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Freshman Cameron McCoy went 1 and one-third innings, giving up 1 run off 3 hits. McCown went 5 innings, giving up no runs off 4 hits, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.
In their second game Saturday, the Falcons defeated East Limestone, 4-3.
LCHS had 3 hits coming from C. Smith and Pierce.
Jacks got the start, going 2 innings, giving up 2 runs off 3 hits and 1 strikeout. Gower went 2 innings, giving up no runs off 1 hit and 2 strikeouts. McCoy went 2 and one-third innings, giving up 1 run off 3 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Freshman Chandler Hardiman faced two batters, one with a walk. With the bases loaded and two outs, Hardiman stuck out the final batter of the game.
The final game of the day Saturday against Ardmore was rained out.
Tuesday of this week, the Falcons return to district play hosting Tullahoma with a 6 p.m. start time. Wednesday, LCHS travels to Tullahoma. Friday, Lincoln County travels to Coffee County for a 12 p.m. start. Saturday, the Falcons travel to Grissom for a game at 12 p.m.
