The City of Fayetteville is planning “Dump the Junk”, a community-wide clean-up week, for Oct. 22-26.
As part of the effort, the city will be conducting curbside pickup of limbs, leaves, household trash, rugs, auto batteries, tires (limit four), and household appliances. Items not accepted as part of the curbside pickup program during “Dump the Junk” week are dirt, rocks and construction material. Paint and electronics are accepted at the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Recycling Center.
Additionally, the city will offer to pay $100 for each of the first 10 junk cars that are removed from the yards of city residents.
“We’re excited about this effort to clean-up our city,” said Jim Lee, city administrator, urging participation across the city. “We know our residents have pride in their community, and this is an opportunity for everyone to demonstrate that pride and take an active role in helping make our community look its best.”
Persons who are elderly or disabled can also contact the city if they need assistance taking debris and unwanted items to their curb – “We have some groups that are volunteering to help,” said Lee, noting that persons interested can contact the city at (931) 433-6154.
“Dump the Junk” is a project endorsed by the City of Fayetteville, Keep Fayetteville-Lincoln County Beautiful, Fayetteville Main Street and the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce.
The clean-up effort will also help the city look good as thousands of people visit downtown during this year’s 20th Annual “Fayetteville … Host of Christmas Past,” an event being planned for Nov. 9-11.
