The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and the Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) will be conducting sobriety roadside safety checkpoints during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, which is Friday, March 15, through Sunday, March 17.
Checkpoints will be conducted on the Winchester Highway (Highway 64 East) near the 18-mile marker and Huntsville Highway (Highway 231 South) at the two-mile marker.
Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every day in the United States. Deputies will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Deputies will target those who operate a motor vehicle while impaired and take actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving, authorities said.
