Weekly Saturday night dances are held at the American Legion Post 42, 2007 Wilson Pkwy., from 7-10 p.m. The dance is open to the public. The facility is a nonsmoking building, though a smoking area is provided outside. Country Roads Band plays a mix of country, country rock and classic rock and roll music. The cover charge is $6 per person. The kitchen grill is open for the sale of sandwiches, fries and soft drinks. The American Legion is a nonprofit organization, and proceeds from the dances helps in the funding for the aide to the veterans of Lincoln County.
This year’s Lincoln County Heart Walk will take place at the Patrick Rehab and Wellness Center in Fayetteville on Oct. 23. Registration begins at 1 p.m. with the 5k walk or run immediately following opening festivities. There will be a kids zone and fun fall festivities for all ages.
This year, participants will walk in memory of SJ King and in honor of Jerry Delap and Julieanna Ogle. The Legacy Award will be presented to Elvaleen Trivett and the Heart of the Community Award to the employees of Goodman. The current sponsors are the employees of Goodman, G-Squared, Fayetteville Public Utilities, Lincoln County Health System, Bank of Lincoln County and First National Bank.
“The walk is designed to bring our community together to celebrate survivors of heart disease and stroke and remember those we have lost,” said Stephanie Cline, Heart Walk director.
The American Heart Association has a goal of reducing deaths from heart disease and stroke by 20 percent by the year 2020 while improving the health of all Americans by 20 percent.
“Please come out and help us fight the #1 and #5 killers of all Americans,” she added.

Bring a dish to pass or just come and relax, listen to music, dance, eat and enjoy. The Senior Citizens Center is located at 908 West Washington Street, Fayetteville.
