Fayetteville High School’s Tigers picked up a district win in their opening game of the New Year.
FHS hosted Forrest and finished on top, 68-52.
Currently in District 9-A, Huntland and Middle Tennessee Christian are 5-1; Fayetteville and Cascade, 4-2; Eagleville, 3-3; Forrest, 2-4; Moore Co., 1-5; and Community is 0-6.
Friday night the Rockets stayed in the game in the first half with 3-pointers. In the first quarter, all 9 points for Forrest came from the arch. In the second period, the Rockets added three more.
James Keith poured in 12 points in the second frame for the Tigers. FHS was up 36-31 at the break.
Fayetteville won the third quarter, 18-14, with Keith adding 8 more points. At the end of three, the Tigers were up 54-45.
City kept up the pressure, winning the final frame, 14-7, for the win. Michael Parks added 6 points in the period.
Keith led for FHS with 23 points. Michael Park finished with 15; Nicholas Hopkins added 12; Aaron Parks, 10; and Isaiah Thompson scored 8.
Hopkins hit two from the arch; Michael Parks had one. The Tigers hit 28 shots from the paint. From the line, the Tigers were 11 of 15 with Keith going 7 of 9.
For their next action, the Tiger travel to Huntland on Tuesday, then host Eagleville on Friday. Game times are at 6 p.m.
