Since the adoption of amendments to its refuse and trash collection ordinance a year ago, the City of Fayetteville has been lax in enforcing requirements stipulating when trash receptacles can be set out on the curb.
But now, officials say the time has come to begin enforcing the requirements.
“We want our city to be attractive and appealing,” said Scott Collins, city administrator, last week, adding that trashcans left on curbs for extended periods of time are unsightly.
Consequently, the city will now begin enforcing its requirement that trash containers be placed on the curb for collection no earlier than 7 p.m. on the day before collection. Also, containers must be removed from the curb or street no later than 7 pm. on the day of collection.
The 24-hour window of time when trash cans can be left out on the street becomes effective immediately.
