The Fayetteville High School Tigers picked up a District 9-A win Friday night, defeating Community at home, 69-57.
The boys’ overall record is now 5-3 and 2-0 in district play.
With 5:20 in the first quarter, FHS trailed 6-4. At the 3:40 mark, James Keith dropped a basket, putting the Tigers on top, 9-8. They would not trail again. By the end of one, City was up 18-10.
Fayetteville kept the momentum in the second period, up 38-18 at the break.
Late in the third period, the Tigers led by as many as 24, but the Vikings got on a 15-4 run in the fourth. With 3:33 remaining in the game, FHS was up 57-47. The Tigers won the final minutes, 12-10, to finish with the win.
James Keith led for FHS with 22 points. Nicholas Hopkins followed with 18; Aaron Parks had 8; Darren Patterson, 7; Isaiah Thompson, 6; Michael Parks and Dorian Thompson, 3; and Kendrell Hall scored 2.
The Tigers hit 21 shots from the paint and 4 from the arch, coming from Michael Parks, Aaron Parks, Nicholas Hopkins and Darren Patterson. From the line, FHS was 15 of 25.
For their next action, the Tigers host Moore County on Tuesday. Friday FHS travels to Cascade. Game time is at 6 p.m.
