A search is underway for cowardly lions, scarecrows, Dorothy’s, witches (both good and bad), wizards, munchkins and other characters who performed in Motlow College productions of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1982 and 1995, according to Debbie Zimmerman, an associate professor of communications and director of the annual children’s play at the college.
“I am planning an opening reception for the children’s play this year,” she said. “I am repeating the first play I directed here in 1982 – The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I also directed it in 1995. I want to invite all former cast members from both productions and their families to the reception but cannot find all of their addresses.”
The reception is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Nov. 1 in Eoff Hall on Motlow’s Moore County campus, followed by the play at 7 p.m.
Zimmerman asks former cast and crewmembers to call the college by Oct. 19 at 393-1700 to confirm their attendance at the reception and play. Also, she requests that anyone knowing post office addresses, email addresses or telephone numbers of former cast and crewmembers call as well.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is special to Zimmerman, not only because it was the first play she directed at Motlow, but also because it will be her last. Over the course of her career at the college, she directed 30 children’s plays (counting this year’s) and 10 other productions.
