Prevent Child Abuse Blue RibbonThe board of directors and staff of Junior’s House announce the upcoming 9th Annual Blue Ribbon Walk set for Friday, April 12, at  9 a.m. at Stone Bridge Park in Fayetteville.

The grand marshals for this year’s event are State Sen. Jim Tracy and State Rep. Pat Marsh.

Nationally, April is known as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. Blue Ribbons will be hanging all over town to remind us of the harmful affects of child abuse. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, 3.6 million child abuse investigations occur annually in our Country. Of those investigations, one fifth of the children (750,000) are found to be victims of severe abuse like sexual or physical abuse. One of four girls and one of six boys will be victims of sexual abuse before they reach the age of 18.

Last year, there were over 1,500 reports of child abuse or neglect in the 17th Judicial District, comprised of Lincoln, Marshall, Moore, and Bedford counties, the service area for Junior’s House. Over five hundred of these children received free services from Junior’s House.

Junior’s House needs your help. You can make a huge difference in the life of child. Please join Junior’s House as a sponsor or walker for the upcoming Blue Ribbon Walk.

Confirmation of your sponsorship is due by March 22. Junior’s House accepts donations and walkers at any time, including the day of the Walk.
