Since 1947, Friendship Stateline Freewill Baptist Children’s Home in Eldridge, Ala., has been caring for children, and over the years, they have nurtured more than 800 children.

For more than three decades, Friendship Stateline Freewill Baptist Church has been proactively raising funds for the children’s home, but for nearly a decade, the church has been holding an annual benefit singing to help raise funds for the care of children and expenses related to the children’s home.

The 9th Annual Benefit Gospel Singing for the children’s home will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 7 p.m. Marvin Morrow of Cypress Inn and Denise Hopkins-Jaco of Toney, Ala., are the featured singers this year.

There is no charge for the event, but a special offering will be received during the singing. All proceeds raised will benefit the children’s home.

In addition to its annual fundraisers for the children’s home, church members purchase Christmas presents for the children, and many members drive to Eldridge where they celebrate the day with them. They also recognize the children on their birthdays.

“They bond with them year after year and correspond with them,” said Charles Marable, field representative for the children’s home. “We try to give them a loving environment.”

The home’s motto is “Investing today in the heart of tomorrow.”

“The Children’s Home in Eldridge provides a haven of hope for hurting children that come from all types of challenging domestic situations.

“The foundation for our existence is James 1:27, where God says, one evidence of pure religion in His eyes is to ‘visit (look after) the fatherless … in their affliction.’ In essence, we are trying to be a ‘father to the fatherless’,” said Danny Williams, FWBCH director of communication and development in a past newsletter.
