The Fayetteville-Lincoln County Arts Center, Inc., and the Fayetteville Rotary Club are sponsoring an art and a music scholarship for eighth through 12th grade students in Lincoln County.
Each scholarship is for $500 and can be used at the discretion of the student and their parents.
The scholarships are the idea of Melanie Laten, a local art teacher and the owner of the Laten House Bed and Breakfast that is located in Fayetteville. Student artwork will be on display to the public in the Arts Center gallery on Saturdays in March 2018.
The public is also welcome to come listen to the auditions for the music scholarships on the first three Saturdays in March 2018. The finalists will be announced on March 23, and the awards ceremony will be held on March 31, 2018. These events coincide with National Children’s Art Month.
Funds for the scholarships are provided by the Arts Center and the Rotary Club. Additional funds will be raised at a silent auction during a wine and cheese party that will be held at the Arts Center on Oct. 17. Contact an Arts Center or a Rotary Club member for more information about this invitation-only event.
To be eligible for these scholarships, the student must be actively pursuing his or her art interests in a private, home school or public school setting; the student must have competed the eighth grade and may not have graduated from the 12th grade; the student may not be older than 19 years of age on March 31, 2018; and the student and at least one parent or guardian must be a current, permanent resident of Lincoln County as of Jan. 1, 2018.
The official application form may be picked up at the Laten House Bed & Breakfast, The Elk Valley Times office, or online from the Arts Center website (FLC-ArtsCenter.com). Applications for these scholarships must be submitted by 6 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2018 either online or to the Laten House Bed and Breakfast at 1203 Washington West, Fayetteville.
