Former postal worker admits to theft
A former Petersburg postal worker faces up to five years in federal prison after admitting to stealing painkillers that belonged to a veteran on his mail route.
Michael Murdock, age 53, pleaded guilty Friday in Chattanooga Federal District Court to taking pain pills being mailed to a patron on his route. The hydro-codone tablets were prescribed by the veteran’s administration.
Court documents indicate Murdock stole prescription drugs seven times and took more than $11,000 under his control while working as a postal carrier.
Other charges will be dismissed at a sentencing hearing set for February. The Chattanooga Times Free Press states Murdock was a 14-year veteran of the United States Postal Service. He also faces a criminal fine of up to $250,000.
