Oneonta pays tribute to covered bridge

Decatur, Ala. – Located in North Alabama rests Blount County who carries the title of Covered Bridge Capital of Alabama, and for the past 28 years, the town of Oneonta sets aside one day to pay tribute to its heritage and the county’s three covered bridges. Set for October 27, 2012, Oneonta will host the Blount County Covered Bridge Festival, attracting locals and visitors to a day of family fun including a car and motorcycle show, a river walk, golf tournament, a 5K race, and a variety of children’s activities.

With three covered bridges still in existence (Easley, Horton Mill, and Swann Covered Bridges), Blount County is designated the Covered Bridge Capital of Alabama. Now in its 29th year, the day-long festival attracts visitors from across the state of Alabama and beyond. The day kicks off with a pancake breakfast held at Lester Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 108 Third Avenue East, from 7 to 10 a.m. Along Main Street, the Arts and Crafts Show will be set up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. offering a tempting array of homemade items, handmade jewelry, original artwork, wood creations, and more; and as festival goers shop for unique gifts and treasures, live music fills the air. A variety of food vendors will keep everyone from going hungry and the Children’s Area located behind Downtown Diner and Floral Creations will keep kids of all ages entertained throughout the day. Admission is free.
