The Knights of Riverside Christian Academy defeated Sacred Heart of Jesus High School of Jackson in a 40-25 game on Friday night to become the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference Division Two regular season champions.
Senior quarterback Reagan Eldridge connected with his brother, Ryan Eldridge, on a three-yard pass to score the Knights’ first touchdown with 9:59 left in the first quarter, and Eldridge’s pass to Caleb Durham for the two-point conversion was good to bring the score to 8-0.
RCA kicked the ball off to SHJHS for a touchback. SHJHS was penalized on their first offensive play after the kickoff, moving them back to their own goal line. RCA freshman Nathan Moose tackled the SHJHS running back in the end zone for a safety, putting RCA up 10-0.
The next RCA score came with 11:52 left in the second quarter on a six-yard pass from Reagan Eldridge to Josh Brooks. Eldridge ran the ball in the end zone for the two-point conversion, making the score RCA, 18, SHJHS, 0.
Sacred Heart would score twice before halftime on two touchdown runs. They made one of the point-after-touchdown attempts to bring the score to RCA, 26, SHJHS, 13, at the half.
RCA’s second half kickoff was returned by SHJHS for a touchdown on the first play of the third quarter, closing the score to 26-19.
RCA’s first score of the second half came with 8:24 left in the third quarter on a nine-yard pass from Eldridge to Josh Brooks; the two-point conversion attempt was no good for a score of 32-19.
Eldridge connected with RCA sophomore Seth Finch on an eight-yard pass to the end zone for another Knights touchdown with 6:41 left in the game. Reagan Eldridge’s pass to Ryan Eldridge was good for the two-point conversion for a score of 40-19.
SHJHS scored the last points of the game with one minute left to go on a touchdown run. The extra point attempt was no good for a final score of RCA, 40, SHJHS, 25.
Reagan Eldridge led the Knights on offense with 19 quarterback keeps for 159 yards rushing and seven first down conversions. Eldridge also completed 16 of 26 passes for 221 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.
Nathan Moose had 12 carries for 36 yards and two first down conversions for the Knights, and Josh Brooks had three carries for 14 yards.
Josh Brooks led the Knights in receiving with seven catches for 105 yards, three touchdowns and two first down conversions. Seth Finch had six catches for 68 yards, one touchdown and one first down conversion for the Knights. Mason Forchetti had one catch for forty yards and one first down conversion.
Nathan Elrod and Josh Mills led the Knights on defense. Elrod had six tackles, two tackles for a loss, and caused one fumble. Mills had five tackles, three assisted tackles, and two caused fumbles.
Also contributing on defense were Reagan Eldridge with seven tackles; Josh Hill with four tackles, one tackle for a loss, and an assisted tackle; Josh Brooks with three tackles, one tackle for a loss, one assisted tackle, a fumble recovery for 12 yards, and two deflected passes; Seth Finch with two assisted tackles; Nathan Moose with an assisted tackle and a safety; and Caleb Durham with a fumble recovery.
The Knights will travel to Montgomery on Friday night to play a non-conference game against Evangel Family. The Knights’ next home game will be Friday, Oct. 19, against Aaron Academy beginning at 7 p.m.
