Moyers earns scholarship

Moyers awarded Shoney's scholarship

Zach Moyers, a first-year student at Motlow College, is the recipient of the Shoney’s Scholarship, which is funded by Dan and Pattie Holt, owners of Shoney’s in Fayetteville.

Moyers graduated from Lincoln County High School this spring and is studying political science at Motlow.

“I am very excited to receive this scholarship,” Moyers said. “It brings me superb joy to know that there are people who are willing to contribute to my education.”

The Holts, who also established a scholarship named for their other business, Lincoln County Vending, have worked in the food service business for years. They also operate the cafeteria on Motlow’s Moore County campus.

Mr. Holt, a Motlow graduate and member of the Motlow Foundation’s Board of Trustees, credits the late Franklin Yates, former publisher of the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, for loaning him tuition money and the inspiration that he needed to graduate from college. The Holts said they started the two scholarships to “pass it on” and help others achieve their educational goals.

These scholarships and similar scholarships are awarded through the Motlow College Foundation. Anyone can contribute to existing scholarships or establish new ones, according to Jan Rogers, director of advancement at Motlow. For more information, visit the foundation’s website at www.mscc.edu/foundation, call Rogers at 393-1692 or 1-800-654-4877 ext. 1692 or email jrogers@mscc.edu.

In addition to scholarships available through the foundation, there are many other opportunities available to students through financial aid and institutional scholarships. They are listed on Motlow’s website at www.mscc.edu/scholarships.
