Wilma Lois Smith Caughran, 85, of Huntsville, Ala., died Saturday (Sept. 22, 2012) in Huntsville Hospital. A native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late William and Pearl Rudd Smith, Mrs. Caughran was a retired civil service employee and a member of the Valley Fellowship Church. Survivors include her son, Gary Lee Caughran of Huntsville; nephew, Charles Ray Smith and wife, Peggy, of Fayetteville; and close family friend, Kenneth Small. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at Riverview Memorial Gardens with Bro. Ennis Hyman officiating. Burial will follow beside her late husband, James Homer Caughran. Maudie Louise Cox, 91, of Toney, Ala., died Sunday (Sept. 16, 2012) at Huntsville Hospital. A private mass was held for the family on Thursday morning at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Mike Bigley officiating. Burial was in Ready Cemetery, Toney, Ala. Louise Thomason Hudson, 92, of Fayetteville, died Thursday (Sept. 20, 2012) in Lincoln Care Center. A native of Madison County, Ala., Mrs. Hudson was the daughter of the late J.W. and Savilla Hopkins Thomason. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Connie Hill and Donna Hard, both of Fayetteville; two sons, Evan Hudson of Fayetteville and Johnny Hudson of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Annie Ruth Roden of Cornersville and Betty Johnson of Fayetteville; four brothers, Gene Thomason of Spring Hill, Maurice Thomason of Thompson Station, Phillip Thomason of Boonshill and Leonard Thomason of Madison; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Travis Creasy officiating. Burial followed in Riverview Memorial Gardens beside her husband, Herschel Hudson. Ruby Jo Martin, 66, of Elkmont, Ala., died Monday (Sept. 17, 2012) at her home. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with Bro. Roger Cothren officiating. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Hazel Brown Pack, 96, of Guntersville, Ala., formerly of Fayetteville, died Wednesday (Sept. 19, 2012) in Marshall Manor in Guntersville. She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late John A. and Eula Marshall Brown. Mrs. Pack moved to Guntersville from Fayetteville in 1934 where she worked in the cotton mill until it closed. Mrs. Pack was one of the original founders of the Guntersville Garden Club. After the mill closed, she moved to Pendleton, S.C., were she retired from J P Stephens Cotton Mill in 1978. She was a member of the Park City Church of Christ. Survivors include her son, Larry Pack and wife, Linda, of Guntersville; three granddaughters, Kimberly Kay Nolan and husband, Jim, of Melbourne, Fla., Kathryn Lynn Hamilton and husband, Jim, of Huntsville, Ala., and Tracey Lee Willams and husband, Gregory, of Helena, Ala.; six great-grandchildren, Daniel Paul Troy, USAF in Japan, Kryston Zurowski of Huntsville, Kaitlyn McDaniel of Charleston, S.C., Ashley, Alexa, Thomas Marvin Williams, all of Helena; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters, Edna King, Winnie D. Brown and Odell Bowen. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Clayton officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery beside her husband, Marvin Pack, who passed away in 1983. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Annie Pearl Honea Payne, 91, of the Howell Community, died Monday morning (Sept. 17, 2012) in NHC Oakwood Nursing Facility in Lewisburg. A native of Lincoln County, Mrs. Payne was the daughter of the late R.R. and Liza Jane Maddox Honea, a former textile worker and retail clerk with Belk and a member of the Howell First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia P. Meeks of the Howell Community; son, Richard S. Payne and wife, Jennifer, of Honea Path, S.C.; two sisters, Irene Hopkins of Pulaski; and Winnie Simms of Tullahoma; brother, Melvin Honea of Taft; grandchildren, Chris Meeks and wife, Cathy, Kimberly West and husband, Eric, Richard Joshua Payne and wife, Cindy, Hannah Morgan Payne Brooks and husband, Marty; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by great-grandson, Samuel Carter Payne; two brothers, Grady L. and Jimmie H. Honea; and sister, Coye West. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Howell First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Gass officiating. Burial was in Kirkland Cemetery beside her husband, Ernest S. Payne. Margaret Waid Taylor, 78, of Fayetteville, died Sunday night (Sept. 23, 2012) at her residence. A native of Lincoln County, Mrs. Taylor was the daughter of the late Holman Waid and Kathleen Buntley Waid. Mrs. Taylor taught school in Atlanta for more than twenty years and worked in the family restaurant, “Justine’s” in Memphis, for twenty years. She was a former resident of Hilton Head, S.C. She was a member of the Mimosa Church of Christ. Survivors include her sister, Elaine Bevill of Fayetteville; two nephews, Waid Ray of Collierville and Kirt Ray and wife, Renee, of Fayetteville; great-niece, Lauren Ray of Collierville; and several cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens beside her husband, Dan Taylor, who passed away in 2005. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
