The 2012 4-H Poultry Judging Team traveled to Lebanon on Sept. 20 to compete in the Middle Tennessee Regional 4-H Poultry Judging Contest.
The Middle Tennessee Region is the only region that still hosts a Poultry Judging Contest, and they are very pleased with the number of participants for the 2012 year.
This is Lincoln County’s third year to participate in the regional competition, and they were very pleased with the outcome of achievements they received this year. Most of the youth on the Poultry Judging team participate in Lincoln County’s 4-H Chick Chain with UT Extension. They raise Red Star Sex Link and Black Star Sex Link hens in the spring and then sell them at the Lincoln County Fair in September.
The Chick Chain opportunity sparked an interest in Poultry Judging for the youth, and they began the 4-H Poultry Judging Team in the fall of 2010. Allison Ogle, alumnus of a 4-H Poultry Judging Team, is the coach. Lincoln County’s Junior Team this year consisted of teammates Alex Moore, Noah Dance, Isaac Dance, Ethan Milhahn and Zach Snoddy. The Junior High Team included Erin Moore, Jarad Johnson, John Robert Snoddy, and Jesse Franklin. The Senior Team participants were Ciara Armstrong, Ty Wolaver, Ty Quick and Katilyn Lewter.
All three teams brought home awards this year with the Junior and Junior High team placing 4th overall, and the Senior team placing 2nd overall. High individuals included Zachary Snoddy, Issac Dance, John Robert Snoddy, Katilyn Lewter, Ty Wolaver and Ciara Armstrong.
The local Senior Team will go on to compete in the State Competition in Knoxville on Oct. 6. The winning team will represent Tennessee in the National 4-H Poultry Judging Contest in Louisville, Ky.
