Schools return to session next week
The summer break is over for Fayetteville and Lincoln County students as local schools reopen next week for the start of the 2012-13 academic year.
The first day of school for students attending Fayetteville city schools is Monday, July 30, while the first day for students in Lincoln County schools is Wednesday, Aug. 1. And classes begin at Riverside Christian Academy on Thursday, Aug. 2.
Following are the calendars for each of the school systems and Riverside.
July 30-31, in-service for teachers; Aug. 1, registration at all schools, half day; Aug. 2, staff development day for all staff at all schools; Aug. 3, students attend for their first full day;
Sept. 3, Labor Day holiday; Sept. 6, parent/teacher conference at Lincoln County High School from 4-7 p.m.;
Oct. 8-12, fall break; Oct. 18, parent/teacher conferences at elementary schools from 4-7 p.m., Oct. 25, parent/teacher conference at Ninth Grade Academy, 4-7 p.m.;
Nov. 19-23, Thanksgiving break; Dec. 19, students attend for a half-day before the Christmas holidays; Jan. 2, staff development for all staff at all schools; Jan. 3, students return to school for a full day; Jan. 21, Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday;
Feb. 7, parent/teacher conference at LCHS from 4-7 p.m.; Feb. 18, President’s Day holiday; Feb. 21, parent/teacher conferences at elementary schools; Feb. 28, parent/teacher conferences at Ninth Grade Academy, 4-7 p.m.;
March 11-15, spring break; March 29, Good Friday holiday; May 17, last day of school for students, a half-day, and graduation; and May 20-22, teacher in-service (make-up).
Grading periods are Aug. 1 through Oct. 3, Oct. 4 through Dec. 19, Jan. 2 through March 7, and March 8 through May 17, with progress reports on Sept. 5, Nov. 15, Feb. 6, and April 18. Report cards will be handed out Oct. 17, Jan. 9, March 20, and May 17.
