Veterans are invited to attend monthly breakfasts hosted by Vietnam Era Veterans on the second Saturday of each month. The next one is set for Saturday, Aug. 9, at 8:30 a.m., at Mike’s All American Diner, 1842 North Main Street, above the Shelbyville Walmart. A commodity distribution by South Central Human Resource Agency will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.

 

Central High School Class of 1973 will have its bi-monthly dinner Thursday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at Shoney’s Restaurant. For more information, call Bill Askew at 536-4955.

 

Vietnam Era Veterans’ monthly evening meetings will be held at Mike’s All American Diner, 1842 North Main Street, Shelbyville, on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, and will feature John Ragan, Tennessee state representative. Stewards of Children, a free lunch and learn program at Junior’s House Child Advocacy Center, will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The program is for adults and focuses on how to prevent child sexual abuse in our community. SAAW will hold its annual Summer Salads Luncheon fundraiser Friday, Aug. 15, 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church. The event features wonderful salads and desserts. Silver bowl donations will be accepted. Attendees may sit down and enjoy lunch or carry out. The fundraiser benefits Southern Alliance Spay Neuter Clinic in Parks City, which is helping reduce pet overpopulation and saving cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies from euthanasia.

 

Central High School Class of 1965 is having a Birthday Bash on Aug. 16 at the Lincoln County Museum and Civic Center. Every classmate is invited to attend. Anyone who would like to join the group is encouraged to attend.

 

The Lincoln County Democratic Party will meet Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at the Fayetteville Municipal Building auditorium located on the east side of the public square. The Ninth Annual Dellrose Cross Tractor Drive is set for Aug. 30. The drive will leave the Dellrose Fire Department at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 per tractor and includes one meal. Additional riders must be on a trailer or carry all. Minimum of 12 miles per hour speed and drivers must be 16-years-old to drive. Flintville Class of 1954 celebrates its 60th reunion at Victoria’s Restaurant in Parks City on Saturday, Sept. 13. Social time is at 11 a.m., with lunch at noon. Victoria’s is located on Huntsville Highway in the Piggly Wiggly shopping center.

 

Regular events

 

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held each Monday (closed meeting) and Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, located at 106 East Washington Street in Fayetteville, and each Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. at The Basement, located at the corner of East Market and Franklin in Fayetteville. Family Caregiver Support Group meetings for Alzheimer’s and other dementias are held the first Wednesday of each month from 10-11 a.m. at 101 West Lincoln Street, Tullahoma. RSVP to Home Instead Senior Care at (931) 454-2202.

 

Weekly Saturday night dances are held at the American Legion Post 42, 2007 Wilson Parkway, from 7-10 p.m. The dance is open to the public, and the facility is a nonsmoking building, though a smoking area is provided outside. Country Roads Band plays a mix of country, country rock and classic rock and roll music. The cover charge is $5 per person. The kitchen grill is open for the sale of sandwiches, fries and soft drinks. The American Legion is a nonprofit organization, and proceeds from the dances helps in the funding for the aide to the veterans of Lincoln County.

 

Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center’s Senior Dance is held each Tuesday from 1 until 4 p.m. Cover charge is $3 per person. A live band is on hand to provide music. Bring a dish to pass or just come and relax, listen to music, dance, eat and enjoy. The Senior Citizens Center is located at 908 West Washington Street, Fayetteville.

 

Senior citizens’ exercise classes are currently being held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center.
