Franklin Delano “Pete” Adams, 81 of Lynchburg, passed from this life on Thursday (July 17, 2014) at his home. He was born March 13, 1933 in Lynchburg, the son of the late Jack Tankersley and Bertha Adams. He was very proud of his forty years of service in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He served two tours of duty in the Korean War, two tours of duty in Vietnam and a tour of duty in Desert Storm. In addition to his military service, he worked for Fushi Copperweld as a fabricator for twenty-one years. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife, Shariann Beatrice (Arnold) Adams; brothers, Orville Tankersley, Thomas Earl Tankersley, Jay Tankersley and Houston Tankersley; and sisters, Anna Ruth Lewis and Elizabeth Smith. Surviving are sons, Daryl (Lisa) Adams of Tullahoma, Shawn (Crystal) Adams of Lynchburg and Kyle (Sarah Locke) Adams of Shelbyville; daughter, Miranda (Tracey) Harmon of Petersburg; sisters, Nellie Harris of Tullahoma, Linda Hodge of Lewisburg, Margaret Weddington of Winchester and Ruby Larson of Ohio; grandchildren, Candice Keebaugh, Ammon Keebaugh, J.T. Keebaugh, Donnie Keebaugh, Megan Keebaugh, Shelby Harmon, Katey Harmon, Kaleb Locke, Clayton Adams, Trace Harmon, Dale Adams, Zoey Locke and Chase Adams; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Jennings Moore-Cortner Chapel with the Rev. Allen Black officiating. Interment with military honors followed in Hurricane Cemetery, Tullahoma. Willis Gerald Lewis, 53, of Fayetteville passed away Friday morning (July 18, 2014) at Lincoln Medical Center. He was a native of St. Louis, Mo., and the son of the late Willis Gerald and Madeline KuyKendall Lewis. Mr. Lewis was in the restaurant business. Survivors include his wife, Shelia Faulkner Lewis; three children, Renee Benson, Jessica Lewis and Christopher Lewis; brother, Robert; and sisters Renee, Loretta and Vianne. No services are planned. Higgins Funeral Home assisted the family.
Bonnie Lee Miles, 51, of Prospect, died Sunday (July 20, 2014) at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala. A native of Detroit, Mich., she was employed with Verizon Wireless. There will be no services planned at this time. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
John Ralph Raiford, 82, of Opelika, Ala., passed away Monday (July 14, 2014) at Bethany House. He was born Feb. 19, 1932 in Elmore County. Mr. Raiford was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. John Raiford lived a life of honesty, hard work, love of family, a spirit of giving and a dedication to his country. He served in the Air Force for 23 years, seeing combat duty in Vietnam, and retiring as a SMSGT. After retiring from the Air Force, John worked as a machinist at Ampex for over 20 years. He spent his life committed to his family and the love of his life, Sylvia Marlene. Mr. Raiford was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Raiford, and son, David Wayne Raiford. Survivors include his son, John W. (Carol) Raiford; daughters, Belinda Clayton, Kathryn Pickwoad Raiford; grandchildren, Kelly (Brian) Moore, Kristen Raiford, John Ryan (Donna) Raiford, Heather (Chase) Clemons, Daniel (Lauren) Clayton, Sara (Scott) Oliver, Colin Clayton, Bradley Pickwoad, Brianna Pickwoad; great-grandchild, John Lucas Raiford; sisters, Margie Thompson and Pearl Baker. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Bullard officiating. Burial was in Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery. Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Reyer, 79, of Decatur, Ala., died Sunday (July 13, 2014) at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, Ala. Mary Maurine Self, 81, of Elkmont, Ala., died Tuesday (July 15, 2014) at Athens-Limestone Hospital in Athens, Ala. Funeral services were held Friday morning at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Ala., with Pastor Mike Lovell officiating. Burial was in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, Ala. Paul Pierce Tripp, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday (July 16, 2014) in Donalson Care Center. A native of Lincoln County, Mr. Tripp was the son of the late John H. and Susan Copeland Tripp. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WW II, a retired maintenance specialist with TVA and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn McGee Tripp of Fayetteville; son, Mark Albert Tripp of Columbia; two brothers, Max Tripp of Tullahoma and Massey Tripp of Louisville, Ky.; and sister, Willie J. Halcomb of Lawrenceville, Ga. Mr. Tripp was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean McGhee and Mary Rowe. Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro.
