Ragan speaks to area veterans
Tennessee State Representative John Ragan will be the speaker at the Vietnam Era Veterans’ next meeting set for Thursday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m.
The meeting will be held at Mike’s All American Diner above the Walmart in Shelbyville.
Ragan is originally from Morgantown, N.C., and currently resides in Oak Ridge. He and his wife, Liz, have two children, Lisa and Patrick. John is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy where became an Air Force fighter pilot. He earned a master’s degree in aeronautical sciences from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and has continued post graduate and professional studies at the University of Oklahoma, University of Southern California, University of North Carolina and the University of Tennessee.
Ragan has more than 39 years of experience in governmental, industrial, educational and commercial organizations. Ragan’s military career spanned 24 years and encompassed more than 4,000 jet hours and time in two combat theaters. Throughout his long military career, he held leadership positions overseeing wartime command, civil engineering operations, logistics, communications and police organizations, among others.
His civil experience after military retirement includes management duties for strategic planning at a Fortune 100 company, as well as a business consultant to dozens of
other national companies.
Currently, Ragan serves as member of the 108th General Assembly of the State of Tennessee for District 33. He is a member of the House Committees of Insurance, Vice-Chair of Government Operations and Chairman of the House Republican Energy Task Force. In addition, Ragan serves as a representative for Tennessee on the National Council of State Legislatures Nuclear Working Group and the Southern State Energy Board.
