When her nine-year-old son got in trouble for throwing mulch into a neighbor’s yard, Fayetteville’s Linda Bailey decided it might be good for her son to see where trouble can lead, so with the help of local law enforcement, she’s organized a tour for kids of the Lincoln County Jail.
“I asked the police to talk to him, and they did,” said Ms. Bailey. “Then I wondered if there was any way to let children see where a life of trouble can lead. A tour of the jail just might scare them straight.”
With the help of Patrolman Cody Smith of the Fayetteville Police Department and Sandra Metcalf of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Ms. Bailey planned the tour and involved kids from her neighborhood. As of last week, over 30 children will be participating.
The tour is going to be held Monday, July 21, at 9:30 a.m., and anyone with children interested in participating can contact Ms. Bailey either on Facebook or by her cell phone at (931) 625-0223.
“I want to thank Sandra Metcalf and Officer Smith,” she said. “They’ve both been a great deal of help, and I really do believe this will make a big difference.”
