Special Olympics Banquet honors local athletes

The Highland Rim Civitans and St. Mary Magdelene Episcopal Church recently co-hosted the annual Special Olympics banquet for the Lincoln County athletes and their families.

The group was honored to have Civitan Valley District Governor Leslie Benmark attend this special event.

The annual banquet has been hosted by the Highland Rim Civitans for over 10 years and is the highlight of the year for all the athletes and their families.

Jo Goldasich, Lincoln County Coordinator for Special Olympics, announced the following athletes were chosen to compete the 2014 State Games in Nashville: April Holt and Melanie McAlister in swimming and Barbara Berry and Bill Holland in Bocce.

The Special B-Team Angels provided the entertainment for the night. The Angels are all Special Olympians with parents as guardian angels and have been performing at local churches and nursing homes for the past 15 years.
