With 275 runners pre-registered, the 2014 Firecracker Chase was a success, returning for just the second year after a 20-year absence.

Throw in the overcast skies and brief showers along the way and it was a runner’s day.

As an added bonus to the community, over 150 of the participants visited our fair city from out of town, coming from as far as Arkansas for the event.

The Firecracker Chase is the second race of the year in a five-race series by Run Lincoln County.

“I want to thank everyone for their support of this year’s Fayetteville Firecracker Chase 5K and 10.2 mile race,” said co-organizer Dawn Dixon. “We ended up with a few more 5K runners than last year, and we had more than a 50 percent increase in the 10.2 mile runners.

“I also want to give a big shout out to all of the Fayetteville Swim Team volunteers who came out so early in the morning to help with traffic, give out water and work registration. Also, a big thank you to the Fayetteville Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dept. for their help with traffic to keep everyone safe – we could not have pulled this off without each and every one of you.”
