The reception of outstanding artwork by HAPI (Healing Arts Project, Inc.) was a big success.

The event was held in the parish hall of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church on Sunday, June 8.

People came from Shelbyville, Athens, Nashville and surrounding areas to view the art exhibit.

Those who missed the opening reception still have an opportunity to enjoy the artwork at the following schedule through June 28. The show is on Tuesdays from 2 until 6 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Jane Baxter, director of HAPI from Nashville, was the guest speaker. She explained how HAPI started as an avenue for persons in mental health and addiction recovery to express their creativity through a wide range of artistic endeavors.

The exhibit of over 40 pieces of art is dynamic. The exhibit promotes understanding, acceptance and success of individuals in Middle Tennessee.

Funding partners include the Tennessee Arts Commission, the Metro Nashville Arts Commission, the Memorial Foundation, United Healthcare Community Plan and the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

This is the first time the exhibit has been held in this area of Tennessee. Organizers hope the community will stop by St. Marry Magdalene Episcopal Church and view these outstanding pieces of art.

This is one way to build awareness in our community and promote understanding,” said Marcia Ruffing, an organizer of the local event.
