The 2014 Fayetteville Heart Walk will be the focus of a community-wide meeting to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, in the auditorium of Fayetteville Public Utilities. Live Music in the Park, featuring the Madison Community Band, will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, at Stone Bridge Park in Fayetteville. Presented by the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, the family-oriented event is free, and concessions will be available, including homemade ice cream. C&R Buggy Tours will also be offering rides through the park.
Vietnam Era Veterans’ monthly evening meetings will be held at Mike’s All American Diner, 1842 North Main Street, Shelbyville, on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, June 12, and will feature Ike Farrar, a World War II veteran. A bake sale is set for Saturday, June 14, at Flintville Community Center beginning at 8 a.m. The sale is sponsored by the Flintville FCE Club. Proceeds benefit community projects.
A Public Forum featuring candidates for county Mayor will be held Monday, June 16, at 7 p.m. at the Fayetteville Municipal Building. Participants include incumbent Peggy Bevels as well as challengers Jack Atchley, Bill Newman, Gwen Shelton, and David Smith. The event is free.
Veterans are invited to attend monthly breakfasts hosted by Vietnam Era Veterans on the second Saturday of each month. The next one is set for Saturday, June 14, at 8:30 a.m., at Mike’s All American Diner, 1842 North Main Street, above the Shelbyville Walmart. The 49th Annual Southern Weekend of Art will be held Friday and Saturday, June 21-21, at Stone Bridge Park in Fayetteville. On Friday, the Arts and Craft Show will be held from 11 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., followed by a free concert from 6 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m., and the show will be from 10 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Snowbird will be the guest reader on Wednesday, June 25, at 2 p.m. for the Fayetteville-Lincoln county Summer Reading program. Snowbird will read fun books about penguins, then meet and greet his fans! Kids are reminded to bring their cameras or phones to take a cool photo of themselves and “the bird with the word.”
Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held each Monday (closed meeting) and Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, located at 106 East Washington Street in Fayetteville, and each Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. at The Basement, located at the corner of East Market and Franklin in Fayetteville. Weekly Saturday night dances are held at the American Legion Post 42, 2007 Wilson Parkway, from 7-10 p.m. The dance is open to the public, and the facility is a nonsmoking building, though a smoking area is provided outside. Country Roads Band plays a mix of country, country rock and classic rock and roll music. The cover charge is $5 per person. The kitchen grill is open for the sale of sandwiches, fries and soft drinks. The American Legion is a nonprofit organization, and proceeds from the dances helps in the funding for the aide to the veterans of Lincoln County.
Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center’s Senior Dance is held each Tuesday from 1 until 4 p.m. Cover charge is $3 per person. A live band is on hand to provide music. Bring a dish to pass or just come and relax, listen to music, dance, eat and enjoy. The Senior Citizens Center is located at 908 West Washington Street, Fayetteville.
Senior citizens’ exercise classes are currently being held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center. All American veterans are invited to weekly breakfasts hosted by Vietnam Era Veterans. Breakfast is held at the new “Base Camp”, Mike’s All American Diner, 1842 North Main Street, Shelbyville, each Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. No reservations are needed, and it will be Dutch treat.
