The National Barbecue Association (NBBQA) has announced that local product, Harold’s Hog Wash, was among the top winners in this year’s Awards of Excellence competition, earning fourth place in the Mustard Mild category.
The award was announced at the organization’s annual conference held March 5-9 in San Marcos, Texas.
“BBQ enthusiasts from all over the country come here to measure their products against their peers,” said Roy Slicker, association president. “It’s a competitive field with top-notch products, and a NBBQA Award of Excellence medal is quickly becoming one of the most coveted awards in the foodservice industry.”
The annual competition recognizes the very best barbecue products across several industry categories, and the winners, representing 25 states and two Canadian provinces, were selected from among 533 total submissions.
“Harold’s Hog Wash was the only BBQ sauce in its category that made the Top 5 in 2013 and again in 2014,” said Harold Wilcox. “Also, my Harold’s Hog Wash T-shirt won Third Place in the NBBQA apparel contest.”
In addition to the AOE competition, the 2014 NBBQA conference featured an array of seminars led by well-respected BBQ standouts. Attendees learned from the best at presentations such as the Barbecue Business 101, Creating and Protecting Your Brand, Understanding Grocery Distribution, What It Takes to Win KCBS and MBN and many others. The conference also featured an impressive gathering of grills, smokers and BBQ equipment at the trade show as well as a KCBS-sponsored BBQ competition, a Peoples’ Choice sauce contest and the Central Texas Steak Cook-off.
