Candidates vying for election on the Aug. 7 ballot are welcome to announce their candidacies in The Times.
“This is an opportunity for our candidates to let voters know who they are and what they represent,” said Lucy Williams, editor and publisher of The Times, noting that there is no charge for the announcements.
Announcements for contended county-wide offices will be published front page, Williams noted, adding that announcements for district races, as well as offices in which candidates are not challenged, will be published as close to the front page as possible, primarily on pages 2A or 3A.
“Some candidates have already announced, and we appreciate that,” Williams said. “For those candidates who haven’t yet announced, they are encouraged to announce as soon as possible to give readers a chance to become familiar with them and their qualifications well in advance of the elections.”
Announcements, though, will not be published after The Times’ July 9th edition, she said. That would make the final deadline for submitting the complimentary announcements July 2nd. As a general guideline, announcements should not exceed 500 words and may be submitted to Williams via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, by mail to P.O. Box 9, Fayetteville, 37334, or hand-delivered to The Times at 418 Elk Avenue North. Photos may also be submitted, or The Times is glad to take pictures of candidates.
