Fayetteville High School’s Lady Tiger softball team hosted Forrest for its first varsity game for the program.
The ladies held their own to the District 9-A favorite, falling 4-0.
Highlights for the Lady Tigers came on defense with Riley “Red” Flemming going seven innings on the mound, putting 10 strikeouts, 2 base on balls and 7 hits in the books.
“Red pitched a phenomenal game, and we played some really good defense,” said Coach Melissa Good. “We just didn’t have the hits to back us up. Mikayla (Pridmore) threw her first runner out at second to stop a steal, and Taylor (Bryan) turned a double play in the top of the seventh.
“I feel we’re improving with every game and have confidence my girls will continue to work hard and have a good season,” she added. “I thought we did pretty good up against the number one team for our first year of varsity.”
Hits for the Lady Tigers came from Makenzie Moorehead and Shelby Peardon.
This week the ladies were to host Huntland on Tuesday starting at 5 p.m., then Central Magnet School comes to town on Friday starting at 6 p.m.
