Sir’s Fabrics in Fayetteville is holding a Purse & Backpack Sewing Contest for local students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades, all for the benefit of the Humane Society of Lincoln County.

Students participating in the contest must be enrolled in either Lincoln County High School, Fayetteville High School, Riverside Christian Academy, or a home school in Lincoln County, and all supplies used – fabric, interfacing, belting, thread, and patterns – must be purchased from Sir’s between March 10 and April 30 of this year. A Sir’s sales receipt is required for documentation.

Items submitted for judging must also be sewn by the high school student registering in the contest. Any size purse or backpack is acceptable, according to guidelines, and the student’s name, grade and school should be displayed with the submitted item at Sir’s.

By entering the contest, students will be granting permission for Sir’s to display their finished purchase or backpack for approximately 60 days, and multiple entries per student are welcome.

In the handbag or purse category, the student placing first will win a Brother Simplicity sewing machine. Second place will receive a $50 Sir’s gift certificate, and third place will receive a $25 Sir’s gift certificate.

In the backpack category, first place will also win A brother Simplicity sewing machine, with second receiving a $50 Sir’s gift certificate and third, a $25 Sir’s gift certificate.

Winners in both categories will be determined by public voting, and the cost to submit a ballot is $1. All ballot money will be donated to the Humane Society of Lincoln County.

Sir’s is located at 110 North Elk Avenue in Fayetteville.
