Fayetteville High School’s soccer team has a new head coach this spring, bringing a lot of knowledge of the game.
Over the summer, Chris Leonardi was named to lead the program. He is assisted this season by Al Palacio. Leonardi also works as an assistant with Martin Methodist College Red Hawk soccer program that finished with a 19-2-2 record last fall.
The Tigers compete in a different alignment of district play made up of Community, White House, Middle Tennessee Christian and Forrest.
As a new program, Fayetteville continues to develop experience. It’s the Tigers’ first year to have senior leadership on the field with Nick Landers, Thomas Woods, Micah Keele, Gus Palacio and Alex Palacio. Juniors include Kerissa Black, Nicholas Sisk, Eammon Morris, Kris Black, John Strong and Phillip Hwang. Sophomores are Ethan Thornton, Erich Feuser, Drew Bradford, Aiden Pace, Noah Young, Evan Thornton and Hunter Keele. Freshmen are Henry Pace and Lilly Johnson.
With experience playing at the Club level, the young Tigers are expected to be quick contributors to this year’s program. FHS has competed well in preseason play, defeating RCA, 7-2; tying Cumberland County, 0-0; tying Ensworth, 1-1; and losing to Warren County, 0-1, and Stone Memorial, 0-2.
Fayetteville’s season opens at home March 18 against Cannon County starting at 6 p.m. On March 20, FHS travels to Culleoka before hosting Community March 25 at 6 p.m. for their first district action of the season.
