Lady Tigers move to varsity under new leadership
Fayetteville High School’s Lady Tiger softball team will make the step up to a varsity schedule this season.
The ladies have played JV ball the past two seasons. FHS competes in District 9-A against Community, Moore County, Middle Tennessee Christian, Huntland, Forrest and Eagleville.
Coach Melissa Good, assisted by Mandy Buchanan, take over the helm leading the Lady Tigers for the first time. Good had a successful pitching career at Mississippi State where she had a school record 92 starts from 2002-04.
The Lady Tigers’ roster continues to grow with 14 taking the field this season and add senior leadership to the program for the first time. Seniors are Olivia Paris, Mikayla Pridmore and Aundrea Welch. Juniors include Devon Balsama, Bethany Becker, Taylor Bryan, Allie Heffington and Shelby Peardon. Sophomores are Amari Bryson and Riley Fleming. Freshmen include Tamyia Haston, Mckenzie Moorehead, Leslie Taylor and Erin Wakefield.
“We’ve got five returning from last year, Balsama, Fleming, Paris, Heffington and Bryson,” Coach Good said. “Our four freshmen all played for the FMS team last year, and we had two transfer in, Aundrea Welch and Shelby Peardon.

“All the others have played in the past but did not play last year,” Coach Good added. “We also have one player who is out with an injury for the season, Bethany Beck, but she will return next year.”
The Lady Tigers kick off their season on the road at Forrest on March 11, then travel to Middle Tennessee Christian on March 14. The ladies’ first home action is against Forrest March 18 starting at 5 p.m.
Home games are played at Don Davidson (Lions) Park on the bypass.
