With this being the third year the high school’s athletic programs have been in place, Tiger baseball is the first to have a student-athlete sign to play at the next level under scholarship. Senior Ryan Yates committed last December to play for Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, Mo., following graduation.
The third year also gives the Tigers more experience growing to a roster of 15 and their first senior leadership on the field. Seniors are Kyler Gentry and Ryan Yates. Juniors include Sean Hall, Denzel Hampton, Zach Harwell, Darrion King and Matt Taylor. Sophomores are Michael Cooper, Andrew Kelly, Will Martin, Jacob Pigg and Cole Roland. Freshmen are Will Clark, Austin Holdmeyer and Jonathon Pigg.
“We’ve got seven starters returning from last season,” said Coach Cunningham. “Yates returns after receiving All-District honors in 2013. Jacob Pigg, Taylor, King, Roland, Hall and Hampton all were big contributors last season.
“We’ve had a couple transfer, as well,” Cunningham added. “Kylar Gentry came from East Limestone, Ala., and Austin Holdmeyer came from Moore County.”
The Tigers open their season on the road March 12 against Middle Tennessee Christian, then host the Cougars March 13 starting at 5 p.m.
Home games are played at Don Davidson (Lions) Park on the bypass.
