Lincoln County High School’s Falcon baseball wrapped up its 2013 season with the second best number of wins in school history at 23-16.
The 2014 Falcons are capable of improving that mark.
Coach Travis Tate is back for his third season after returning from Grissom High School in Huntsville. He is assisted this year by Jay McElyea and Charlie Amos.
Depth is in favor of LCHS this season after losing four from last year’s team to graduation.
“I expect to use 15 guys regularly,” Coach Tate said. “We’ve got depth across the board, and we’re going to take advantage of it.
“We’re in the process of finding the best combinations defensively and offensively,” he added. “We want to utilize everyone’s strengths the best we can. Several of our guys in the pitching rotation play other positions so we’re seeing who works best in those situations.
“Tullahoma and Columbia will be strong,” Coach Tate continued, “but there’s really a lot of balance in our district. It’s good to have Coffee County back in the mix.”
Six will work in the pitch rotation, including Zac Malone, Jonathan Jacks, Carson Taylor, Cameron McCoy Chandler Hardiman and Brandon Gower.
In the outfield, look for Brandon Gower, Jonathan Jacks, Jacob Dickerson, Cory Hummerding and Tristian Norman to be in the mix.
Logan Smith, Carson Taylor, Grady Wright, Zac Malone, Jake Pierce and Jake Taylor to take the infield.
The Falcons have seven filling the senior leadership role with Zac Malone, who received All-District honors last year, Brandon Gower, Jonathan Jacks, Jake Taylor, Carson Taylor and Jake Pierce.
Juniors include Logan Smith, Keller Monks, Grady Wright and Cory Hummerding. Sophomores are Cameron McCoy, Toddy Edwards, Tyler McCown, Brannen Kerbo, Chandler Hardiman, Jacob Dickenson, Ethan Pruett, Garrett Holland, Hunter Thrasher, Kirby Smith, John Snoddy and Tyler Webber.
